How I Became a Feminist

I’m very lucky to live in Saint Paul, MN, a community that supports writers and writing via many non-profit, business, and government organizations. I’m also lucky to have this poem published on the Saint Paul Almanac site as part of their “Breakthrough” writing contest this spring. The poem tries to capture the revolution I experienced as a younger woman of understanding my mother’s sacrifices to family while claiming my own path — all within the contained space of the sonnet form! How I Became A Feminist

And speaking of breakthroughs, this photo is my first tulip of the season. May many more follow, and SOON.

  1. I love this poem, KateLynn. It’s so beautifully spare but speaks volumes. I think the life you describe in this poem has been lived by unnumbered women, on and off the farm.
